Dear Sir,

This Letter of intent is to outline our desire to partner with Michigan Lighthouse Conservancy to develop a 21st Century educational project in support of the acquisition and maintenance of the two Muskegon, Michigan lighthouses.
Our mission in this project is to help students realize the innate historical, cultural and scientific value of the lighthouses as portals to the Great Lakes. We will develop a student centered curriculum that will utilize the lighthouses as resource tools to launch marine based and meteorological learning initiatives. This will be tied in to other local resources and remote learning centers.
We will also endeavor to procure additional intellectual and financial support from both public and private individuals and entities in support these projects.
It is our plan to create an awareness of the vast resources that exist not only in the Great Lakes Watershed but also within the individuals working and learning on this project. We endeavor to help the lighthouses become metaphors that serve as a guiding lights not only for ships on the high seas, but they also find new life and meaning in guiding individuals to a new level of self realization and creative social involvement.
In Closing we wish to express our gratitude for
the opportunity to help people recognize the
historical value of the lighthouses while
simultaneously creating new value for them.

Sincerely,
James W. Bates
